Preparing entries

This guide will help you prepare your work ready to enter into Northern Futures 2010.

All submitted entries must be eligible and fit the criteria of one of the main competition categories. Please see each catagory information for specific details of submission criteria. This guide also offers advice on formatting entries for use in our online entry system.

The list below illustrates which formats can be submitted.

Accepted Entry Formats

Rationale

 

  • Supporting rationale can be supplied as:
  • Word Documents (*.doc)
  • Basic Text (*.txt or *.rft)
  • PDF documents


Images

 

  • Images can be supplied as:
  • JPEG, JPG (RGB or CMYK colour format only)
  • TIF, PNG or GIF formats


Films

Films can be supplied as:

 

  • Quicktime movies (compressed no larger than 20mb)
  • Online video via (YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, Google Video etc...)
  • Website URL featuring direct link to film


Please bear these points in mind when planning your competition entry:

 

  • The total size of each entry is limited to 20MB.
  • Entries can be one single file or multiple files.
  • Where entries include presentation-based submissions, these can be JPEG’s or PDF’sbut are restricted to four sheets and each page must be no bigger than A2 in size.This can be entered as four separate files or in the case of a PDF, one singlefile with four pages.
  • Entries can be made from a combination images and PDF pages where relevant.
  • Film and animation entries should have one of the following: A website link or URL address to the exact location of the film to be viewed online. This can be located on your own site or YouTube etc. OR a compressed quicktime file of no more than 20mb uploaded via our submission system.
  • Entries to each category should be accompanied by a separate payment. Entry can be made in multiple categories by one individual only with separate payment for each category entry.

Winners notified by 17 May
Exhibition of Succesful Entries 28 July to 3rd September

Prize Information

Category Winners: Five finalists will be selected from all of the entries in each category. The finalists will be exhibited in the Northern Futures exhibition at the Gallery@ The Civic, Barnsley. During the course of this exhibition a winner will be announced along with 2 runners up from each category. There will also be a people's prize of £500, from votes gathered from within the exhibition.

Each category winner will receive a £1500 cash prize. Two runners up in each category will receive £250

Entry Checklist

 

  1. Have you written a rationale (description) for your entry?
  2. Does it cover the purpose of the piece, the skills you have used and a reflection on your learning outcomes?
  3. Does my entry fit the criteria for the category?
  4. Does my entry conform to file formats described above?
  5. Have I read and understood the terms and conditions of entry for the competition?

 

Film

If you aspire to be the next Danny Boyle or Mike Leigh, this is a great chance to show everyone just how good you are. In a hugely competitive industry such as film you need to stand out from the crowd. Winning accolades for your work can give you the distinction you need. We’re looking for the best new film makers to enter Northern Futures Film category and be recognised for your talent and creativity. If film is your life then you need to be a part of Northern Futures.
