What is Northern Futures?
Northern Futures is a new, annual art & design prize hosted by The Civic, Barnsley. Celebrating tomorrow’s talent today, the prize recognises and rewards the best emerging creative talent in the north of England, showcasing it to a wider national and international audience and confirming the north as a hotbed of creativity. Northern Futures award is intended to provoke debate and dialogue about Northern contemporary creativity from Art, Film and Fashion to Music, Writing and Design. Its aim is to raise the profile of northern creative talent and counterpoint existing awards perceived to be southern England focused. Each year Northern Futures showcases four disciplines and creates a platform for discussion and debate around the chosen art forms encouraging wider participation and interest from the general public.
How do I enter Northern Futures 2010?
You can enter online from mid January to April 30th 2010. Please register your email address now to be notified when the call for entries is open. Once the entry process is live, create an account by clicking Enter Now. Follow the steps shown; all entries must be accompanied by a £20 online payment using our secure online payment system.
When is the deadline to enter?
The deadline for completing your entry is April 30th 2010. You can change your uploaded files at any time up until this date, however, any files in your account on May 1st will be considered to be entries.
Who can enter?
Anyone. As long as you were born, live or work in the North of England (North of England refers to the geographic regions as defined by the Arts Council). You have to be aged between 21 - 40. You may be required to provide some proof if you are short listed.
What work is accepted?
To be eligible, work must have completed your work between 1 January 2007 to present day. For full details on our entry criteria for the Awards please read the Submission Criteria.
How much does it cost to enter?
The Entry fee is £20, payable via the Northern Futures website www.northernfutures.co.uk
Where does the money I spend on my entries go?
Entry fees are used to support the Prize fund for Northern Futures. Funds are also used to help market and promote Northern Futures. All monies are handled via The Civic which is a registered charity.
How many categories can I enter?
You can enter all categories if you feel that your work fits the criteria for each category. However separate payment is needed for each category entry.
Who will be judging my work?
Visit Panel section on the Northern Futures website to see who will be judging this year's entries.
What methods of payment are accepted?
To streamline the entry process we have created a secure online payment system that you complete on submission of your entry. You can pay by credit or debit card. No other payment method is accepted.
Will I receive a receipt?
Once you have completed your payment, you will be allocated a unique number for that entry, and confirmation and receipt for payment will be emailed to your designated email address.
How do I prepare and submit my entries?
Full instructions on what to submit for each category are available in the individual category submission guidelines.
What credits do I need to supply?
Basic credits such as the title of your work, date created and materials used if relevant. Any copyright information if this resides with someone other that you as the artist. For example, photography credits for a fashion image.
What information about my entries do I have to submit?
Use the Submission information in each category to find out the information required. You will submit images of your work along with written rationale explaining your thoughts and objectives for each Entry.
Do I need to supply translations?
You will need to supply a translation if your work was not originally created in English. Refer to the Preparing Your Entries PDF for guidelines on how to supply translations.
When will I know if my work is successful?
As results are confirmed they will be announced at www.northernfutures.co.uk. An official confirmation of these results will also be sent to the person who registered as the main contact for the entry during the week beginning 17 May 2010.
What happens if my work is successful?
Successful applicants will be published on our online Winners section of the Northern Futures website. Arrangements will be made to deliver the work for exhibition at The Gallery@ The Civic, Barnsley from 28 July to 3rd September. Winners will receive their prize money and award at a ceremony & dinner held at the Civic. Please check the website for information concerning times and dates of the awards ceremony.
